Helping to Assure the Future of the Minot Catholic Schools
The Minot Catholic Schools Foundation began in 1977 as a financial support system to insure the future of the schools. Inspired by Fr. William's foresight to invest now for the future of our schools. Each year, the Foundation provides support in the way of teacher endowment, student scholarships, work study programs, and operation support. We are grateful to the legacy of donors who have sustained our existence and given us hope for the future. As a member of our faith and education community, we invite your continued presence in our schools, your continued input for improving our services, and your continued financial support of our efforts, all of which are essential to our continued success and the fulfillment of our mission.
Methods of Giving
To advance our mission, the Minot Catholic Schools are dependent upon the generosity of people who believe in giving the gift of faith to the children. We appreciate your consideration in helping us meet the needs of today’s children. Every gift makes a difference and no gift is too small. It is with sincere appreciation that we accept gifts in various forms including:
PRAYER
Please keep the Minot Catholic Schools and parishes in your prayers. It is an awesome responsibility to be entrusted with the formation of so many children. Your prayers are very powerful in helping us with this task.
TALENT
Volunteers are essential to our existence and can be both rewarding and enjoyable. Please prayerfully consider how you would like to help whether through helping with fundraising efforts, helping in the classroom or offering your expertise on one of the many advisory committees.
CASH
The most common method of giving is to make a charitable gift of cash. Donations to qualified charities, such as the Minot Catholic Schools, could cost you much less when you file your taxes.
IN-KIND DONATIONS
In-kind gifts of services and materials for classroom projects and fundraisers are always appreciated.
PLANNED GIFTS
Planned gifts take many forms and are one of the most common ways to fund endowments. Examples of planned gifts include designating Minot Catholic Schools in your will, forming a charitable trust or purchasing a gift annuity.
- Remember the Minot Catholic Schools and parishes as one of your children when developing your will.
- Charitable trusts offer significant tax savings while providing an annual income to you and your family.
- Trusts are funded with an asset, such as appreciated property or securities, and are designed to provide you income for the remainder of your life. At the end of your life, Minot Catholic Schools will receive the remaining funds in the trust.
- Gift annuities provide you with a lifetime income as well. The annual return on your gift varies from 6.9% to 12% depending on your age. You also receive a tax deduction and a tax-free return of principal.
SECURITIES
Making a gift of appreciated stock is one of the most advantageous forms of giving. For example, if you donate stock that you purchased for $2,000 several years ago, and it is now worth $10,000, you get a deduction for the full $10,000 and a tax savings of $2,800 (28% marginal tax bracket). In addition, you have avoided the capital gains tax at a 20% rate of $1,600. Your total savings is $4,400. These benefits do not take into account the additional savings in state taxes.
REAL ESTATE
Gifts of appreciated real estate are similar to gifts of appreciated stock. If you have owned the real estate for more than 12 months, you will avoid all capital gains and may deduct the fair market value of the real estate.
INSURANCE
You may want to donate to Minot Catholic Schools by making it the owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy. If you are finished paying for the policy, your gift is the replacement value or cost basis of the policy, whichever is less. You may also donate a new policy or a policy on which you are still making payments. The premiums on a contributed policy are deductible. Gifts of insurance are a wonderful method to make sizable contributions to Minot Catholic School's endowment fund.
How will your gift help the Minot Catholic Schools?
There are basically three areas of need for the on-going success of the mission of the Minot Catholic Schools:
- Operational Needs: Operational gifts help meet the everyday needs of the schools including paying our teachers, purchasing textbooks, and keeping the lights on.
- Improvements: Any improvements to the school, whether it involves building improvements or new programs, we must find funds to cover these additional expenses.
- Endowment: Endowment gifts are an investment in the long-term security of the schools. Currently, we have both a Teacher Endowment and a Scholarship Endowment to secure our two greatest resources, our teachers and our students.
